Short version: these aren’t competing products. Hover is a per-project measurement and 3D modeling engine. QuoteIQ is the software that runs your business. Plenty of contractors pay for both, and plenty of others never need Hover at all. This guide explains which group you’re in, written by a company that sells one of them — so we’ve tried to be precise about where our own tool stops.
If you quote by area — lawn care, pressure washing, painting, sealcoating, fencing, concrete — MapMeasure Pro is enough, and it’s unlimited on QuoteIQ Beginner at $74.99/month. If you quote roofs or siding, you genuinely need Hover or something like it: satellite imagery physically cannot produce roof pitch per facet, siding area by elevation, a waste factor, or an Xactimate ESX file, and MapMeasure Pro does not claim to. And if you’re a roofing company, the honest answer is usually run both — Hover for takeoffs at $39–$139 per project, QuoteIQ for the CRM, scheduling, invoicing, payments and review generation that Hover doesn’t do at all. Hover’s own homepage says it “fits right into your CRM.” That’s not a weakness in either product; it’s how the stack is designed to work.
TL;DR: Hover is a photogrammetry-based measurement, 3D modeling and design service used by 300,000+ construction pros, with 22 billion square feet measured and a 4.8-star rating across 59 Capterra reviews. It produces roof facets, pitches, ridges, hips, valleys and waste factors; siding area by elevation with trim and corner counts; material takeoffs with live supplier pricing; and Xactimate ESX exports for insurance work. It does not do CRM, scheduling, dispatch, routing, invoicing, payments, job costing, phone, SMS, or review generation — and it doesn’t try to. QuoteIQ does all of that from $29.99/month, and includes MapMeasure Pro satellite measurement unlimited from $74.99. The two overlap on exactly one job — getting a measurement in front of a homeowner — and even there they solve different problems. For an area-quoted trade, unlimited satellite measurement at a flat rate is the correct economic answer and Hover is overkill. For roofing and siding, Hover’s facet-level output is a genuine capability QuoteIQ does not have, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Per the National Roofing Contractors Association, accurate takeoffs are one of the largest determinants of margin on a re-roof — which is exactly why the two-tool stack exists.
This is the whole guide in one table. The question isn’t which product is better — it’s what your quoting method requires. Trades that price by ground or wall area need a number. Trades that price by roof plane need geometry.
| Your trade | What you’re measuring | What’s sufficient | Do you need Hover? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lawn care | Turf area, bed edging | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Pressure washing | Driveway, siding, deck sq ft | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Painting (exterior) | Wall area, trim linear ft | MapMeasure Pro for most jobs | Only for complex elevations |
| Sealcoating | Asphalt area | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Concrete & flatwork | Slab area, linear edges | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Fencing | Linear footage, gates | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Window cleaning | Pane counts, stories | MapMeasure Pro + site photos | No |
| Gutter cleaning | Linear footage, stories | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Landscaping | Bed area, hardscape, sod | MapMeasure Pro | No |
| Roofing | Facets, pitch, ridge, valley, waste | Hover or equivalent | Yes |
| Siding & exterior cladding | Area by elevation, trim, corners | Hover or equivalent | Yes |
| Window & door replacement | Opening dimensions, counts | Hover or equivalent | Yes |
| Insurance restoration | Xactimate-compatible scope | Hover (ESX export) | Yes |
| HVAC, plumbing, electrical | Not area-based | Neither — you quote by scope | No |
| Handyman, cleaning, pest | Not area-based | Neither | No |
A roofing-industry reviewer put the boundary more bluntly than we would have: service trades like HVAC, plumbing and electrical have no use for exterior visualization, and Hover doesn’t map to those workflows. That’s correct, and it applies to most of the 50+ trades QuoteIQ serves. But for the four highlighted rows above, Hover does something QuoteIQ cannot do at any price, and that’s worth being direct about.
Most of the confusion here comes from both things being called “measurement.” They use completely different capture methods, and that determines what each can and cannot produce. This isn’t a marketing distinction — it’s physics.
| MapMeasure Pro (satellite) | Hover (photogrammetry) | |
|---|---|---|
| Capture method | Overhead aerial and satellite imagery | Person walks the property taking phone photos |
| Site visit required | No — measure from the office | Yes (or invite the homeowner to scan) |
| Ground and roof area | Yes | Yes |
| Linear footage / perimeters | Yes | Yes |
| Roof pitch per facet | No — not possible from overhead | Yes |
| Ridges, hips, valleys, waste factor | No | Yes |
| Siding area by elevation | No | Yes |
| Xactimate ESX export | No | Yes, on residential |
| Interior rooms / floor plans | No | Yes, from $29/project |
| Heavy tree cover | Imagery can be obstructed | Unaffected — photos are taken at ground level |
| Brand-new construction | May not appear in current imagery | Unaffected |
| Turnaround | Immediate | 8–12 hours standard; 1-hour expedited available |
| Cost model | Flat — unlimited from $74.99/mo | Per project, $39–$139 full exterior |
The two rows most people miss are tree cover and new construction. Because Hover captures from the ground, a heavily wooded lot or a house built last month — both of which defeat satellite imagery — are non-issues. If you work in mature neighbourhoods with heavy canopy or in new-build subdivisions, that alone can justify Hover regardless of trade. One MapMeasure Pro user in a wooded area told us as much — it saves enormous time on the properties where it works, and there are properties where it doesn’t.
We’re not going to soften this: MapMeasure Pro is not a cheaper Hover. It’s a different tool that doesn’t do the roofing job. Satellite imagery cannot derive the pitch of an individual roof plane, and any vendor telling a roofer otherwise is either confused or hoping you won’t check. If facet-level roof data is what you need, buy the tool that produces it.
This is the answer most roofing and siding companies land on, and it’s worth stating plainly even though we sell one of the two products. Hover and QuoteIQ occupy different layers of the stack. Hover measures and models the building. QuoteIQ runs the business around it — the lead, the follow-up, the schedule, the crew, the invoice, the payment, the review request. Hover’s own homepage puts it this way: it “fits right into your CRM, estimating, and marketing tools to amplify your existing workflow.”
Facets, pitches, waste factor, siding by elevation, material lists with live supplier pricing, ESX export for claims. $39–$139 per full exterior project depending on complexity and plan.
CRM, options-based estimates, scheduling, dispatch, invoicing, payments, job costing, crew management — none of which Hover does or claims to.
A roofer on QuoteIQ Pro at $149.99 plus Hover Pro at $99 pays both without conflict — they’re solving different problems on the same job.
There’s one workflow gap worth knowing about if you’re planning this stack today. Hover publishes CRM integrations with AccuLynx, JobNimbus, ServiceTitan, Salesforce, Leap and Roof Hub. QuoteIQ is not currently on that list, which means today you’d move measurements across manually — export the PDF or takeoff from Hover, then build the estimate in QuoteIQ. For most contractors that’s a couple of minutes per job rather than a dealbreaker, but it’s a real friction point and we’re not going to pretend it isn’t. Hover offers open API access on every tier including their free plan, so a direct connection is technically straightforward.
One thing worth testing before you commit to the full stack. Review data on Hover consistently shows its return comes from closing rate, not measurement savings — contractors describe the visualization as something built to sit on a table in front of a homeowner, and shops report it drives higher-margin sales. That’s the same outcome QuoteIQ’s Before/After AI is built for, and it’s included free on every plan. They work differently — Hover renders real purchasable manufacturer SKUs, Before/After AI generates a visualization — so run both in front of a few homeowners and see which one actually closes for your market before assuming you need the paid version.
Measurement error shows up as margin error, and it compounds in both directions. Underestimate a roof and you eat the difference in materials and labour on a job you already won. Overestimate it and you lose the bid to a competitor who measured more accurately. According to the National Roofing Contractors Association, waste factor alone can swing material requirements meaningfully on a complex roof — which is precisely the figure satellite imagery cannot generate and a photogrammetry model can.
The mirror-image error is buying more measurement than the job needs. A lawn care or sealcoating contractor quoting turf or asphalt area gains nothing from a 3D model with facet geometry — the extra data doesn’t change the bid, but the per-project fee still lands on the P&L every month. Per the U.S. Small Business Administration, software and tooling overhead is among the top controllable costs for a small contractor, and a recurring per-transaction fee for capability you don’t use is one of the easier ones to eliminate.
There’s also a speed dimension worth weighing. Satellite measurement returns a number immediately from the office, which means a quote can go out the same hour a lead arrives. Photogrammetry requires a site visit or a homeowner scan plus an 8–12 hour turnaround on standard delivery. Research summarized by Harvard Business Review on lead response time found that speed to first contact is one of the strongest predictors of conversion for inbound enquiries. For a trade where you can quote accurately from imagery, that turnaround gap is a real commercial advantage — and for roofing, it’s simply the cost of getting data you can’t get any other way.
A practical middle path a lot of roofers use: quote the initial ballpark from satellite measurement to get a number in front of the homeowner fast, then order the Hover project only once the lead is qualified and worth the per-project fee. That keeps response time short and stops you paying $79 a scan on tyre-kickers.
Hover prices per project, with an optional Pro membership at $99/month or $999/year that takes roughly $20 off each project and unlocks premium features. Their FAQ is refreshingly direct that the membership buys a discount rather than free scans, and that Pro pays for itself at around four projects a month. Verified from hover.to/pricing on July 27, 2026.
| Project type | Structure | Starter (free plan) | Pro ($99/mo) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full exterior 3D | Simple — garage/shed, ≤4 facets | $59 | $39 |
| Full exterior 3D | Average — typical single-family, 5–8 facets | $99 | $79 |
| Full exterior 3D | Complex — large/custom, 9+ facets | $139 | $119 |
| Roof only | Simple / Average / Complex | $29 / $49 / $69 | $9 / $29 / $49 |
| Interior | ≤200 ft² / 201–600 / 600+ | from $29 / $59 / $89 | — / $39 / $69 |
| Blueprint full exterior | Simple / Average / Complex | $99 / $199 / $299 | $79 / $179 / $279 |
| Expedited delivery | Add-on per project | $39 | $19 |
Here’s the volume math for an area-quoted trade — and the scoping matters, so read the caveat under the table before using these numbers.
| Exterior measurements per month | QuoteIQ Beginner — unlimited | Hover Pro + avg full exterior |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | $74.99 | $494 |
| 10 | $74.99 | $889 |
| 20 | $74.99 | $1,679 |
| 40 | $74.99 | $3,259 |
Read this before quoting those numbers anywhere. That table is only a legitimate comparison for trades that quote by area — lawn, pressure washing, sealcoating, concrete, fencing, painting, landscaping. It is not a fair comparison for roofing, because unlimited satellite measurement doesn’t produce what a roofer needs. A roofer comparing $74.99 to $1,679 is comparing a tool that does the job against one that doesn’t. The fair roofing comparison is Hover against EagleView, Roofr or RoofSnap — not against a CRM’s satellite tool.
Two genuine advantages of Hover’s model worth knowing: Pro covers unlimited users on one $99/month plan, so a 30-person roofing company pays once for the whole team — on QuoteIQ that headcount means Max at $699. And their entry offer is the first three projects free with no card required, which is more generous than our own 14-day trial. Their per-project model also means a contractor doing two measurements a quarter pays roughly $160 a year with no subscription at all.
This isn’t a criticism of Hover — it’s a category description. Hover is a measurement and design engine. If you’re deciding what else you need alongside it, this is the list.
Lead tracking, customer records, drag-and-drop scheduling, dispatch, crew assignment and route planning. Hover has none of this.
Native invoicing, online card and ACH payments, deposits, job costing, and QuickBooks Online sync on Pro and above.
AI Estimator, Virtual Call Team, Before/After AI, AI Autopilot and AI Text Generator — included from $29.99/month.

InstaQuote and InstaSchedule let homeowners price and book work themselves, plus QuoteIQ Cam for job photo documentation.
“The one thing we absolutely love is we can simply measure a customers roof right through the app which saves us so much time.”
— Rocketlinn77, roofing contractor, verified App Store review of QuoteIQ. Worth noting the honest boundary: MapMeasure Pro gives roofers a fast area figure for repairs, gutter runs and quick estimates — it does not replace a facet-level takeoff on a full re-roof.Five plans on the public pricing page, each with its user count stated, a 14-day free trial on all of them, and month-to-month terms. MapMeasure Pro is included unlimited from Beginner upward. Annual billing gives two months free.
This distinction gets flattened in most software comparisons, so it’s worth being precise. A booking form — the kind most platforms in this category ship — captures an unpriced service request that you still have to quote, price, confirm and chase. InstaQuote and InstaSchedule are two separate products, and neither one is that. Together they’re the only self-quoting and self-scheduling combination in the industry.
The difference in one sentence: a booking form schedules an unpriced request. InstaSchedule only opens after a customer taps Accept on an estimate — so the job arrives already sold, at a locked price, with the payment method on file, in a slot that was genuinely free, waiting on your one-tap approval. Around 40% of appointments are booked outside business hours, and Sunday evening is the busiest booking window of the week — which is time you are not answering the phone.
If this guide talked you out of buying something, it did its job. Hover is an excellent product and the category standard for exterior takeoffs — if you quote roofs or siding, go use it. If you quote by area, satellite measurement built into your software covers it for a fraction of the cost. And if you’re a roofing company, you’ll probably run both, because they’re solving different halves of the same job. Either way, you still need software to run the business around the measurement.

Four questions that settle it in about five minutes.
If your bids are driven by square footage or linear footage, satellite measurement covers it. If they’re driven by roof planes or elevations, you need 3D.
If yes, you need Xactimate ESX export, which means Hover or a direct equivalent. No satellite tool produces it.
Under about four exterior projects a month, per-project pricing is fine. Above that, a flat unlimited rate starts saving real money.
Hover gives you three projects free. QuoteIQ runs a 14-day trial with unlimited MapMeasure Pro. Try each on a real property before deciding.
